Preamble

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

I've been reading quite a bit of the Constitution lately. I'll read a part...and then sit and reflect on it. I Ask myself...what does this really mean? What do these words above mean?

It means different things to different people. To me, it means that the Government should provide basic services, and get out of our way. Some may say that is a simplistic interpretation. Well, sometimes that's the best way to interpret. The Constitution is our map to a stable country. Without it, we are doomed to to lose our identities as Americans.

I have heard Obama speak a great deal about giving us a new purpose recently. To be quite honest, that scares the living Hell out of me. I don't need a politician to give me a purpose. It is a shame that so many obviously do.


My purpose in this Country is spelled out in those fifty two glorious words above.

I am in complete agreement with everything you said, except I do not understand what exactly scares you so much. ??

Ianswer, what scares me so much...is the fact that Obama has said that we need a new direction and a new purpose. We do not need a new purpose. We already have a purpose. That is to be the shining beacon of freedom to the world. That is our purpose! Obama strives to change that.

Ummm...actually, Free Thinker, I think he meant we need to get a more positive attitude toward things(new direction). Bush has been nothing but negative for the past 8 years. Not sure what he meant by purpose; but i'm sure he has no intention of keeping us from being a shining beacon of freedom to the world. He probably meant we need to move on; get past this war and our current economic and environmental problems. We've made very little progress on these three subjects in the past 8 years. But, once again, it's just how you view things. You can make this set of words mean just about anything if you want them to. Try at least to see my point of view, and I'll try to see yours. In any case, I see nothing to fear. Merrry Christmas!

Keep the comments coming Ianswer! I am all about debate. Although, Obama wasn't talking about moving on. He was talking about redistributive change. What that means is that monies get taken from people that earned it, and given to those that haven't. I believe I have that interview posted here somewhere. Watch it.
